RA Summer Show -

How can the City be Forest?

2025

A youth design workshop led as part of the Royal Academy of Arts’ annual Summer Show. Held in the grand John Madejski Fine Rooms, surrounded by paintings by Lowry and Hockney, the session was a collaboration between myself and designer Jess Mulvey of ASAP.

In response to the Summer Show theme, the brief asked: “How can the city be a forest?” Using a long piece of canvas and coloured fabric, participants explored how a dense urban landscape might merge with a thriving ecology.

The canvas evolved into an abstract city plan, which grew into three dimensions through timber structures built by the young people themselves.
